White Romney roving, this is handspinners favorite fiber.

One reason why is that it is a longwool (4 to 4 inches in length) and doesn't slip out of beginners fingers so easily.

Another is that the lustrous fibers take dye very well.

Romneys are an old English breed. They are sturdy medium sized animals. They grow a lot of wool, about 10 lbs. each year. We have our fleeces prepared by Zeilinger's Mill because they send it back so clean and fluffy. This wool is great for mittens, stockings, hats and outer garments.

We have just received some brand new roving from the mill (4/21/08).

It is fresh and wonderful.
It is completely clean.

                   $20/lb

We also have gotten back both Dark Gray and Medium Gray Romney from our colored Romney flock. These fibers are beautiful and fresh as well.
